By train and bus from Aberdare

Aberdare railway station, at the end of the line from Cardiff on the Rhondda/Aberdare service, is well used by residents travelling in and out of the valley, though for a trip up to Hirwaun the bus is usually the more direct option. Stagecoach services running along the A4059 between Aberdare and Hirwaun stop close to High Street, making the practice reachable without a car for patients coming from the town centre or Trecynon.

Aberdare's bus station, just off the main shopping streets, is the starting point for most of these services, and buses run regularly enough through the day that patients without a car rarely find it adds much time to the journey compared with driving.

For anyone coming from the Trecynon or Llwydcoed edge of Aberdare, walking or cycling up towards Penywaun and on to Hirwaun is a realistic option too, particularly in good weather, since the route follows the valley floor rather than climbing steeply.

No need to worry about parking charges here — High Street in Hirwaun has free parking right outside and in the surrounding streets, unlike the pay-and-display arrangements around parts of Aberdare town centre.
