Jamil Dental changed that by opening right on High Street, meaning Hirwaun finally has a private dentist that doesn't require a drive down the A4059 before you've even had your appointment.

However you're coming from within the village, the drive to 56 High Street rarely takes more than a minute or two. From the Aberdare Road end of Hirwaun, High Street runs straight through the centre, past the war memorial and the row of local shops, with the practice easy to spot on the main stretch. From the Rhigos or Penderyn direction, you'll come down through the village past the turning for the industrial estate before reaching us.

If you're coming off the A465 Heads of the Valleys road, the Hirwaun junction drops you straight onto Llwydcoed Road or directly into the village depending which slip you take, and from either route it's a couple of minutes into the centre. The ongoing dualling works along the A465 have occasionally caused short delays approaching the Hirwaun junction, so if you're travelling from further along the Heads of the Valleys, it's worth allowing a few extra minutes during peak times, though once you're off the main road the village itself is never congested.

Unlike many dental practices, parking here is genuinely no trouble at all — there's free parking directly on High Street close to the practice, plus further free spaces in the nearby streets and around the village centre, so you won't need to feed a meter or hunt for a multi-storey before your appointment.

By bus or on foot around Hirwaun

Stagecoach buses running along the A4059 corridor between Hirwaun, Penderyn and Aberdare stop within a short walk of High Street, making the practice easy to reach without a car for residents living further out towards Rhigos or the edges of the village. Services running towards Aberdare bus station also connect onward to the wider Cynon Valley network, so patients coming in from Penywaun or Trecynon for an appointment with us can usually do the whole journey by bus.

For most people actually living in Hirwaun, walking is often the simplest option of all — the village is compact enough that even from the far end near the retail park, it's no more than a fifteen-minute walk to High Street, and considerably less from the streets closer to the centre.

Cyclists and those on foot from the direction of Hirwaun Common or the older terraces around Commercial Street will find the walk into the village centre flat and straightforward, without any of the steep hills that some of the surrounding Cynon Valley villages have to contend with.

For a lot of Hirwaun patients who've drifted away from regular dental care over the years, perhaps after moving here or simply losing touch with a previous practice further afield, we take time to get a full picture rather than rushing through a checklist.

We'll always explain what we find in plain terms and set out any recommended treatment and its cost clearly before booking anything in.
